Search engine optimization
is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the “natural” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results.
In other words even if there are search engines like google and yahoo and bing and dong and teng and bong… if you have lots of website templates to give out for free and make your webpage about your website templates there is little chance that all these wonderful search engines will find your page.
This seems very ridiculous but that’s just the way it is and that is it. Why, did you think that the world was logic?? Ha ha think again.
Anyway, the thing is you must “optimize” your page for the search engines because they are dumb and will not find your page.
Full stop.
Ok now you are thinking that I am just talking rubbish so here’s my example.
I do have a page where I give out website templates. This page isn’t like all the crappy free stuff pages you often see on the net with lots of glitter but little MEAT where you never seem to find the download links and you click and click and MAYBE if you are lucky after looking a LOT you will find a download link and maybe you get one ugly website template.
No. This page is just a page with no glitter, no graphics or nothing… it is just a page that tells you about my free templates and then you get some links that show you what the templates look like and in the same page you get the links to download the templates.
That’s all that this page is. You simply get your website templates from it, for free just like the page says. You don’t even have to give out your email address to get the templates… at risk of becoming annoying at repeating it once again.. this page is just a boringly simple page with download links to some quite good quality website templates and nothing else.
Actually, they are WEBSITES. They are websites on various topics, with all navigation links, all graphics, articles .. everything is there ready for you to add some lines of code with your ads and you have your sites to send traffic to.
Or maybe you want to change the articles a little so they will be unique before you place them online.. whatever. There is no catch, the only catch is that there are a couple of links at the bottom af the pages of this site, telling people where you got it from and that’s my site.
The links go back to the page where you get the sites from. You know, it gives the pages a little bit of publicity and maybe some more people go back there to download the websites.
The websites are made up from articles I get from my article sites and they all have the about box from the authors who wrote them or in many cases just a link back to these authors.
That’s it, it’s a win win situation, you get the sites, I get a link, they get a link.
Now you would think that if you are just a normal person and would love to get some free websites all you would have to do is go to one of these great search engines, type “free websites” into them, hit search and you will find my page.
But it doesn’t work that way. Sure you will think that the internet is big and if you search for “free websites” you will find first the pages with the most beautiful free websites, maybe hundreds of them and then maybe you will find many pages with maybe 50 beautiful websites each page and then ath the very end of it all you will find my page which has only maybe 15 websites in it.
But no, it doesn’t work this way. Look for yourself, this is the google search for “download free websites“.
Good luck with actually finding some free websites for download on the first page, there waiting for you. It isn’t going to happen, nor on the second.
I actually haven’t even looked because I have no time to waste with google’s search results.. I have been using google for years and it’s the best search engine out there BUT.. did you find some websites for download on that search? Maybe yes but you wasted at least 30 minutes looking through all sorts of rubbish before finding anything worth downloading.
So this is what SEO is. Is the art af creating a page that’s full of cac but google will think it is gold and when you search for something, the page full of cac will show up.
Then, if the webmaster has some heart and will want to give you what you are looking for, he/she will place it on the page but don’t think that placing what you are looking for on the page will make the page easier to find, no it has not much effect to it, you must optimize it for the search engines by giving them the cac they want.
Maybe this is a bit of a pessimistic scenario but then you judge by yourself, the search is up there, follow it and look for your websites for download and see what you find.
On the other hand, my free websites page isn’t coming up with that search , is it? No? And why not, since it is a page that has no cac in it, just the downloading links for the websites you want to download?
I have no idea as to why. Ask google.
However, this page of mine you just read talks a lot about downloading websites for free and so far there hasn’t been a single download to be seen.
True, the title of this page isn’t about downloading websites so Iam not tricking anyone, I am merely explaining what SEO is, in a way that’s a bit different from what you might find at wikipedia.
But in a way I am also helping my little page get noticed by writing up this page that has a lot of repititions of the “free website” keywords and then to make it worthwile and on topic to the page I will add the link to my download page for the free websites I have been talking about.
To confuse google a little bit I won’t even use any anchor text for the link you are going to get, because I don’t really care about doing any conventional SEO. I like to mess about with google, that’s all and I don’t really care if not many people will download my free websites, all I get is a link back after all.
Anyway, the anchar text is.. in normal SEO you would create a link using hte “website download” keywords so that the search engines will see those words, follow the link, find the download and then the SE will rank the page.
I am not too sure that works any more as there’s so may people abusing of everything so anyway, here’s that link as you can see the page is a genuine page with your links to the downloads and not much else apart from some info and a comment form.
